Edward Smith

Managing Director

Edward Smith is a farmer's son from North Yorkshire with a passion for agriculture and country pursuits. After gaining a degree in Agricultural Biochemistry & Nutrition from Newcastle University, he began a career in the animal feed industry. His first role was as a nutritionist for a North East England farmer’s co-operative where he specialised in pig nutrition before moving to Aberdeenshire in 1998 to join Norvite.

He held several technical and commercial roles within the then multinationally-owned business before completing a management buyout of Norvite in 2005. He has since led a period of significant investment and development and Norvite now encompasses three manufacturing sites, three retail stores and an e-commerce site, employing c75 staff.

Edward, former Chairman and ongoing Board Member of the Scottish Organic Producers Association, lives with his family in rural Aberdeenshire. He is the Grantee of the Royal Warrant granted to Norvite by Her Late Majesty The Queen and an active supporter of the national and local Royal Warrant Holders Associations.

Norvite is a key supplier of organic feeds and supplements in Scotland and Edward manages the nutrition of the company’s organic pig and poultry accounts. He initiated the collaborative development of organic oilseed rape production in Scotland in recent years, leading to the formation of the SCOCAN association.
